Rebel State Commemorative Area - P.O. Box 127, Marthaville, LA 71450. A local legend tells how a young Rebel soldier became separated form his unit during a skirmish at “Crump's Corner,” near present day Marthaville. Alone, and lost in the woods, the soldier was searching for other Confederates when he stopped for a drink of water at a spring. There he was killed by Union soldiers. The Barnhills, a local family, found the body and buried him near the road where he had died.
