St. JAMES PARISH
St. James Parish, on both sides of the Mississippi River midway between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, just off of Interstate 10, was "Sleeping Place of the Ducks" for prehistoric Indians, "First Acadian Coast for refugees from Nova Scotia nearly 250 years ago, and "Golden Coast" for antebellum sugarcane planters.

Bay Tree Plantation - A small but charming plantation this French Creole Cottage (c.1850) listed on the National Historic Register sitis on the West Bank in St. James Parish and  has Oak Alley Plantation as it's neighbor

Poche Plantation - This B&B has been beautifully restored to its original splendor. Built in the late 1800s it was the last of the great Mississippi River plantations.

Hymel Farm - A B&B in the heart of Plantation Country, 1 hour from New Orleans and 45 minutes from Baton Rouge. Here you will find an Overseer's Cottage and a Slave Cabin, between two fishing ponds on eight beautiful wooded acres of manicured gardens and wildlife.
